Baroque
Baroque is a style associated with Western European art from ca.1580 to ca.1720. It displayed great interest in dynamic movement, grand and often theatrical effects and elaborate ornamentation. The fusion of architecture, sculpture, and painting into an elaborate total work of art was perhaps the outstanding achievement of baroque art. St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, designed by Michelangelo, Carlo Maderno, and Bernini are excellent examples. Painters of the period include Rubens' The Assumption Of The Virgin, Rembrandt's Christ In The Storm On The Lake Of Galilee, Frans Hals in Holland and Watteau in France.
