T & W Daniell
The landscape painter, Thomas Daniell, was born in Kingston-upon-Thames in 1749. For most of his artistic career he worked in collaboration with his nephew, William Daniell, and the pair travelled in 1784 to India to gather material for their great work Oriental Scenes. Generally, William was considered to complete most of the sketching for each work, whilst Thomas provided the finish, and other touches. Thomas Daniell was so inspired by the exotic scenery of India, that the country thenceforth became the main subject of his paintings. In 1799, he became a member of the Royal Academy and one of his works, View on the Nullah, is now on display in London's National Gallery. Thomas Daniell died in London in 1840.
