Ralph Goings
Photo-realist painter, Ralph Goings was born in Corning, Wyoming in 1928. He received a B.F.A. from the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, CA. While pursuing graduate study at California State University in Sacramento he began painting realist images and in 1966 earned his M.F.A. In 1960, Goings had his first one-man exhibit at the Artist's Cooperative in Sacremento. To create his canvases the artists takes a "couple of hundred" slides of his subject. He then projects one of them on the canvas and does a detailed pencil drawing. Using an enlargment of the slide for reference he paints the image providing more detail than the viewer would see with the naked eye. Perhaps Goings is best known for his interiors, especially diners. Goings has had several one-man exhibitions and many group exhibitions. He currently resides in Charlotteville, New York.
