Phil Greenwood
Phil Greenwood was born in Dolgellau, North Wales. He studied at Harrow and Hornsey Colleges of Art before becoming a lecturer in printmaking. Since 1971, Greenwood has worked as a professional artist and printmaker, exhibiting his work extensively throughout the United States and abroad. He exhibits regularly at the Royal Academy and the Bankside Gallery, home of the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers. A landscape artist, Greenwood works mainly on copper etching plates using only two plates and a few colors. Through the depth of the etch and the over printing and fusing of color he nevertheless achieves a great range of tone and color. In addition, by working from an amalgamation of recalled ideas, emphasizing the atmosphere his landscapes evoke, Greenwood's images do not always relate to a specific place.
