Diann Haist
Diann Haist was born and in 1943, and raised in Cambridge, Ontario, Canada. She enjoyed an early exposure to fine art through her meetings with some latter day members of the Group of Seven. She held her first solo exhibition at the age of thirteen. Following high school, Diann pursued a classical art education. She studied at Central Technical Art College in Toronto under the tutelage of Audrey Garwood and Doris McCarthy. Later, she took classes at The Ontario College of Art as a mature student. After her formal training, Diann kept up her interest in Life Drawing, and began teaching, always emphasizing the importance of drawing as a strong foundation upon which to build a work of art. Over her career of thirty plus years, Diann has had many successful solo exhibitions, which have garnered her an enviable core of collectors. In 1995, her work was part of a touring exhibition which visited 6 major cities in Japan. Diann's versatility as an artist allows her to explore a variety of themes, her oils and acrylics, on either canvas or paper, display a bold brush stroke and confident technique. Since 1970, she has lived and painted in Toronto, Niagara-on-the-Lake, Los Angeles, Chicago, Hilton Head Island SC, and Clearwater Florida, returning to Toronto in 1990 where she worked, exhibited and taught until 1999. Diann currently resides in Alaska. Diann's paintings are part of numerous corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States, Japan, South America, and Europe.
