Alan Hayes
Alan Thomas Hayes was born to a deaf mother, and grew up in a family where communication had real meaning. His first interests were in Egyptology, a field where symbolism was integral to communication. This interest lasted well into high school where it was replaced with painting and printmaking. The talent he displayed in this media was of such caliber that he won a scholarship to Northern Illinois University, where we went on to study printmaking with a focus on etching. In addition to being rigorously involved in his art, Hayes wrote critiques and reviews for a national art publication and began showing on a regular basis at one of Chicago's leading galleries. He later gained admission to the Art Institute if Chicago, which was not an easy achievement. He was selected for one of five available graduate positions out of approximately 3,500 applicants. His style evolved into a postmodern presentation incorporating color and semotics (meaning as relates to symbols and signs). To this date, his work has been universally well received. Haye's work has been exhibited in numerous galleries, and is also represented in both corporate and private collections.
