Painting has always been a way for me to depict images that do not exist in reality. The plastic manipulation of space creates a landscape where the mind can roam. Abstraction becomes a problem solving exercise whose solution elicits an aesthetic, emotion al response. My work seems to be a battle between structure and spontaneity. My conscious makes things happen, while my subconscious allows things to happen. The construction and deconstruction of shape creates a layering of color that adds depth and richn ess to the painting. For me, art is the accumulation of ideas, steps and processes. The finished work represents a thought process. It is my hope that the viewer, by unraveling the thought process, can share in the experience.
