John O'Brien
John P. O'Brien conveys a sense of mystery and romance seldom found in contemporary art. With exquisite craftsmanship, poetic ideals and a modern awareness, he has created a unique style, which has come to be known as "contemporary romantic realism." His passion for France, Ireland and Italy can be seen in the romantic settings of elegant interiors, European street scenes and neighborhood cafes. O'Brien studied at the prestigious Art Students League in New York. His academic achievements, combined with his eye for beauty and admiration for the Impressionists, can be seen in every painting. Sunlight and an ambiance of warmth and brilliance are often focal points of O'Brien's composition. His delicate, soft-edged brush strokes with lush colors and extreme detail gives the appearance of photo-realism, but O'Brien's mastery rises above this superficial approach. O'Brien has been honored with many one-man shows in Boston, Los Angeles, Chicago, Sacramento, New York, and Baltimore, with his work on permanent display at the Phoenix Gallery in London and many private collections throughout the U.K. and the U.S. He has been commissioned to paint murals, portraits, horses, dogs, architecture and illustrations. O'Brien currently resides in Sonoma County, California with his wife and two daughters.
