Randal Painter

Randal Painter was born in Massachusetts and grew up in Denver, Colorado. Early on he showed a talent for drawing and a good eye for detail. In 1985 he received a B.A. in Fine Art from the University of Northern Colorado, with an emphasis in painting and printmaking. The next several years he spent working in art publishing, designing and operating a fully staffed etching studio. He left in 1995 to pursue a career as an independent artist. It was then that he developed his own artistic style that is representational, relying heavily on figurative and architectural themes. “I am fascinated by texture and the illusion of depth on a two dimensional surface. I enjoy using both these elements in my work. Skilled craftsmanship has been a great lure for me in my own artistic taste, ranking high alongside content and composition. The sense of wonder and discovery is a continually renewing motivation for me as an artist. The challenge to transcend the technical aspects of design and bring power and life to an image is a lifelong pursuit”.
