Ana Perpinya
Ana Perpinya was born in Barcelona in 1965. Her painting is inspired in part by urban photography, and the bristling energy of city life. She displays a confident and swift brushstroke that records each and every detail of her subjects. The result is a charismatic style that seems to celebrate its subjects while also deeply investigating their expressions and settings. Due to this attention to detail, the viewer observes an interesting interaction between Ana and her subjects: she knows them so intimately that it seems only logical that the subjects have sat quietly for the paintings. At the same time, however, there is a spontaneity and off-handedness to Ana's work that counteracts this rigor and focus. This conflict creates an energetic tension at the center of her work: the conflict between exuberance and scrutiny; focus and chaos. Ana's work has been collected all across the United States and Europe. She continues to explore different themes, from carnivals, to jazzmen, to dollhouses - all of them exploding with color and movement.
