Eilif Petersen
Elife Petersen was one of the most important Norwegian Impressionist painters. He was born in Christiana, Norway on September 4, 1852. Petersen studied with Diez in Munich. In later years he resided in Rome and Paris where he received a second class medal in 1878 and a gold medal for his work in 1889. His landscapes are noted for being realistic, colorful, and vivid. The churches of Saint-Jean and Saint-Jacques in Oslo hold a few of his religious paintings. He was also a noted portrait painter and works were mainly exhibited in Scandinavia and Germany.
