Wildlife artist Terry Redlin was raised in Watertown, South Dakota. After a motorcycle accident ended his dreams of becoming a forest ranger he pursued a career in the commercial arts. He earned a degree from the St. Paul School of Associated Arts and spent 25 years working as a graphic designer, illustrator and art director. In his leisure time he researched wild life subjects. His meteoric rise in the art world began in 1977, at the age of 40, when his painting "Winter Snows" appeared on the cover of 'The Farmer' magazine. In 1979, in response to overwhelming demand for his work, he began to paint full time. In the 1980's Terry Redlin began to explore Americana subjects. His "American Memories and "Country Doctor" series portray nostalgic scenes. In 1992 he completed his ambitious work, the America the Beautiful series, depicting each line in the first stanza of the song. Redlin's conservation work gives the artist the most satisfaction. From 1981-1997 he donated $30 million to Ducks Unlimited setting an all time record in art sales for wetland preservation projects. In Sioux Falls South Dakota there is an elementary schooled named for him. Recently Terry Redlin built a museum to house his originals which included a state of the art teleconference center, a state tourism office and a theater.
