Deborah Schenck
Deborah Schenck grew up in England surrounded by country gardens, winding lanes and meadows. She spent her summers on the beach in Cornwall and the moors in Devon. Deborah, her husband, James, and their two children now reside in Vermont in a village similar to where she was raised. While still in England she studied film and design before landing firmly behind the camera. After gaining a degree in photography, art and design, she traveled extensively and won various photography awards. During her visits to places like India and China, she discovered her true passion for "simple images in nature and the beauty of color." Deborah uses a method called "Polaroid transfer" in which a photographic image is transferred into watercolor paper where it can be further enhanced by hand painting with watercolors. The technique brings together two of her creative loves: photographic composition and painting. Her photographs blend elegant lines, subtle color and an antique quality, combining a sense of romanticism and nostalgia in a contemporary format. Schenck's delicate imagery conveys poetic memories of times gone by and celebrates her return to country gardens.
