Alan Teger
Teger's love affair with photography began at the age of thirteen, when he received his first camera. In both high school and College he was the photography editor of the newspaper and yearbook. However, when Teger reached College-age, his penchant for photography fell by the way side, as he pursued his Ph.D. as a social psychologist. After practicing psychology for twelve years, Teger found that something was missing from his life, and re-discovered the art form that he had loved as a teenager. He put his practice aside and chose to explore and pursue photography full time. Although Teger changed his career path, he credits his background in psychology for being a major influence on his art. Over the years, Teger discovered that art can be fun as well as serious at the same time. He has always believed that in the end, an artist needs to communicate to the viewer, and involve them in the work to complete the experience, and that the work is not complete until a viewer reacts to it. He began colouring black & white photographs in 1978 before this old process had regained its popularity. His first subjects were remains of old Americana such as old theatres, carousels, and 50's cars. However, as examples of Americana became increasingly difficult to find, Teger then turned his focus to Europe, and began photographing the various cafes, storefronts and architecture. Teger is a self-taught artist, and the skill and beauty of his photography clearly illustrates his innate talent and love for the artform.
