Richard D. Thomas

A professional artist for more than three decades, Richard D. Thomas is nationally recognized for his images of contemporary working cowboys, western landscapes, cow ponies and Native American historical scenes. An outdoor painter, he is an artist who immerses himself completely in his subject matter, becoming a part of what is conveyed on the canvas. Using an impressionistic, painterly style, he strives for feeling rather than detail, using light, color and texture to create a certain mood. Thomas lives in Montana, which provides many of the landscapes and backgrounds for his western paintings. He participates in various group and one-man shows around the country including the Western Visions Show at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson Wyoming and the Masters of the American West show at the Gene Autry Museum n Los Angeles, California.
