Polly Thompson
Although dogs have been the subjects of Polly Thompson's oil paintings for many years, she doesn't consider herself to be a painter of dogs, per se. Instead, she uses the dog as a means to an end. "When I compose a painting I am attempting to convey my take on the nature of conscious existence, in particular what it feels like. Since the dog is a human analogue, emotionally speaking, it serves my purpose well. I believe that dogs provide us with some of the clearest physical expressions of certain feelings, such as suffering, jealousy, or joy." She is represented by several New England galleries, and has been selected for inclusion in numerous museum shows, such as the Florida National, the Cheekwood Contemporary Painting Competition, and the Springfield National. While her academic studies were primarily in the sciences, she has taken studio art courses at Oberlin College, Bennngton College, and the University of Vermont.
