Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec
Born in Albi, France, Toulouse-Lautrec began painting as a child and went on to study with French Academic painters. He is primarily known as a French Post-Impressionist with his work focusing on a fascination with life, more from the point of view of an observer than a participant. His haunts were the Moulin Rouge, the circus, theatres, and the brothels of Paris. In his paintings he captured the personality and excitement of the Parisian night life. His major influences include Edgar Degas and Paul Gaugin. Throughout his life he created paintings, newspaper illustrations, lithographs, drawings, posters and etchings. Toulouse Lautrec died in Malrome on September 9,1901.
