Connie Tunick
Raised in Rock Island, IL, Connie Tunick participated in art-related activities from her childhood on. Crafts and many types of art formed a large part of her life. Her artistic grandmother was a particularly strong art influence. Tunick became an artist simply for the love of art. She is a teacher and art educator, and enjoys teaching children’s art also, but is presently a full-time artist. Tunick graduated from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL with an B.S.; and from CLU, Thousand Oaks, CA with an M.A. When asked what she loves about art, Tunick replied, "Color, color, color! And texture - I love experimenting with new materials and techniques. I love combining the new technology of computers with my art." Tunick hopes that her work communicates her excitement about what she is doing. Whether working in traditional or experimental style, brilliant colors and unusual textures are woven into Tunick’s paintings. Her watermedia collages incorporate many Oriental papers, reflecting her interest in texture. Connie has worked in various media and is presently involved with printmaking and water media. The inspiration for her work comes from surroundings that strike a visual nerve ending. This feeling is apparent when viewing her florals, which reflect her love of flowers and gardening. Years of experience with diverse media gives this artist freedom to combine techniques with creative boldness. "Through my work," she writes, "I want to share my personal vision with others. It is critical that the creative energy and excitement that originally inspired a piece is evident in the finished work." Tunick has had numerous solo exhibitions and has won many awards for her art. Galleries in which she has exhibited include Aqua Classics in Laguna Beach, CA; Art Angles in Orange, CA; Art Illusions in Camarillo, CA. Her work appears in such corporate collections as KGO Corporate Offices in San Francisco, CA; Los Robles Surgi Center in Thousand Oaks, CA; San Leandro Ventura County Supervisor’s Collection in Thousand Oaks, CA; Westshore Medical Building, Westlake Village; Lombard Medical Group, Thousand Oaks, CA; GKV Capital Management, Westlake Village; and Lombard Medical Group, Thousand Oaks.
