Onne Van der Wal

World-class nautical photographer, Onne van der Wal, has used his extensive sailing experience to his advantage. During the 1981-82 Whitbread Around the World Race, Onne paired his photographic skills with his sailing skills shooting his first major magazine article for the American sailing journal, SAIL Magazine. Since that time, Onne has used his keen eye to capture the "behind the scenes" look and feel of the yachting world. His love for travel, beautiful yachts and first-rate photography take him around the world to exotic destinations on assignments where he is able to combine these passions. Recently, Onne has tackled the digital world of photography and has met with success and kudos from pleased clients, publishers and magazine editors worldwide. The digital darkroom has transformed Onne from artist to artist/computer-techie as he masters not only the art of shooting digital imagery, but also the tricks of processing and perfecting the images he shoots on his Canon 1DS. A Dutch native raised in South Africa, Onne now works out of Newport, Rhode Island where he fills his summers with commercial and editorial photography assignments, and travels extensively during the New England winters. Onne lives in Jamestown, RI with his wife and family and enjoys spending his free time fishing, camping, bodysurfing and tinkering in his workshop.
