Lisa White
As one of six siblings, artist Lisa White had the opportunity to learn firsthand the value of a large family and the importance of hard work. She grew up on a farm in rural Columbia, Mississippi, which enabled her to develop an appreciation of the beauty of landscape that would later serve as an inspiration for her art. This lifestyle helped White develop a strong work ethic, very agile hands and a deep faith in God. After her graduation from college, White began a career as a systems analyst for a major oil company. Though excelling in her profession, her career gave way to raising a family in 1985. Three children later, White returned to the classroom and attained a bachelor's degree at the University of Southern Mississippi in 1991. At this time she began a new career as a teacher of mathematics. She has since earned her Master's degree from William Carey College. White began painting as a hobby in 1993. She educated herself through research and study along with daily application of her skills. The beautiful family portraits that followed caused news of her talent to spread quickly. Commissioned portraits in acrylic became her trademark. The transition from portraits to still-lifes was easy because of her love of nature. White enjoys painting fruit and magnolias, and she paints from photos only using acrylics on canvas. White lives in Columbia with her husband Robert and their three children. She continues her teaching career at West Marion High School in Columbia.
