Shari White
After traveling to Northern France and most recently to Rome, artist Shari White has been obsessed with creating works of art, which fuse the antiquities with a 20th-century sensibility. Classics, such as Roman frescoes; specifically those near Pompeii are her favorite source. White's influence from her travels shows in her artwork that is heavily textured with gesso and manipulated with both sand paper and paint to give it a warm antiqued look with a contemporary accent. Born and raised on the East Coast, Shari began her at training at the age of 14 upon entering the High School of Art and Design in New York City. Later, Shari moved on to receive her BFA from Parsons School of Design. Once graduated, Shari and her future husband David Black, moved to Los Angeles where they now live with their two miniature Dachaunds, Bob and Sugar. The turning point in her career came in 1987 with her first solo exhibit in Los Angeles at the Ankrum gallery. Since that time, Shari has shown in galleries throughout the Southern California area, and has produced numerous commissions in the States and abroad.
